Primary school students will get books on the first day of the year

Dhaka, January 1: Elementary school students are getting new books today on the first day of the year; However, new class books will be distributed among secondary students in 12 days.

In the midst of the coronavirus epidemic, 34,36,62,412 books will be distributed to 4,16,55,226 students step by step without holding a textbook festival in one day.

Although all the primary books were sent to the educational institutions for distribution, the printing of books was disrupted due to the pandemic and all the secondary books have not yet reached the educational institutions.

Narayan Chandra Saha, chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), said books for every class have been sent. Some of the books in the classes where the number of books is high have not yet reached the school, all the books will reach by next week.

The Awami League-led government has been celebrating the first day of the year since 2010 and handing out new books to students. In the last 11 years, 366,87,77,566 books have been distributed free of cost. When this year's book distribution is over, a total of 401,24,39,978 books will be distributed.

This time, through the Ministry of Education, 24,10,79,857 books to 1,85,75,453 students of lower secondary, secondary and ibtedayi and 10,25,82,555 books to 2,30,79,773 students of primary schools and small ethnic groups will be distributed.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday inaugurated the book distribution program through a video conference from the Prime Minister's Ganobhaban. On his behalf, Education Minister Dipu Moni and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain handed over new books to 23 students of different levels.
